Tournament Background

The famed Heart of America is back again! Once one of the great tournaments in the nation, the Heart of America Classic has been restored.

The Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship is the crown jewel of American Rugby. Since 2010, the top collegiate programs in the country have been showcased live on NBC and NBC Sports Network each spring. 2017 was the inaugural year for the open Midwest qualifier for the CRC, at the Heart of America Tournament in the Paris of the Plains, Kansas City.

Some of the top College teams in the nation will battle at the CRC qualifier division of the HOA March 29-31 in Kansas City. The champion earns an automatic bid into the big dance in June 2019 at Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The only other open qualifier for the CRC has been the Las Vegas Invitational, the largest annual tournament in the Western Hemisphere. Now, the inclusion of a CRC qualifier at the Heart of America provides ambitious clubs throughout the Midwest and the rest of the country the unique opportunity to win their way onto national television.

We will have knockout divisions for men's college 15's and for the younger folk, we have the High School Challenge Division, where we'll pit HS teams from all over the Midwest against one another on Saturday and Sunday. We promise a competitive match against teams you don't regularly play.

The Heart of America brings teams looking for either old-fashioned rugby fun, a competitive hit-out against new foe, or both.
